Thank you Fred Wilson for recommending this book.
The Cure is about a man, and his fight to save his children from almost certain death due to a rare genetic disorder. This is the best book I have read this year, and one of my top five favorites of all time.
Having just completed a Harvard MBA, and having already attained a law degree from Notre Dame, John Crowley graduates to find out that his 15 month old daughter and newborn son have Pompe disease. Of course John sets out to do the only thing he can do, which is to use his wits and credentials to raise money for research. In science, like business, money drives decisions and can be the determining factor in which treatments are pursued and who gets treated first.
While John's effort drastically speeds up Pompe research around the world, saving hundreds and perhaps thousands of children, in a terrifying twist of fate treatment for John's own children are delayed due to business decisions and conflict of interest.
This is a must read book.
